How exfoliating acids work

Chemical peeling is a technique that involves applying an exfoliating chemical agent to the skin. On a superficial level, peeling removes the stratum corneum of the skin and removes the keratin plug from comedones, giving the skin a brighter and more uniform appearance and making it more porous. At the dermal level, it acts on the deeper layers, triggering a repair and cell regeneration process by stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and glycoproteins. It can therefore be described as an advanced dermo-aesthetic technique for the treatment of skin imperfections such as loss of hydration, elasticity and radiance, blemishes, scars, acne and wrinkles, which must be performed by experienced and trained personnel.

After careful analysis of the different types of acids used in cosmetics, SkinSystem laboratories have created an innovative line of products for facial exfoliation and the treatment of specific skin conditions, including secondary imperfections caused by such conditions.

Each formulation has been designed to best express the specific properties of each exfoliating acid, ensuring visible and effective results. To maximise the effectiveness of the products, an exclusive sequential application technique has been developed to enhance and harmonise the action of each individual acid, taking full advantage of the synergies between the various molecules.

The SkinSystem Active Acids line has been formulated to treat all skin imperfections, creating three specific and targeted macro-protocols for the face:

  • Combat all signs of chronological and photo ageing – ANTI-AGING TREATMENT
  • Reduce and prevent all forms of skin blemishes – ANTI-BLEMISH TREATMENT
  • Combat and prevent the onset of acne and other skin imperfections – ANTI-ACNE TREATMENT

Each treatment consists of three stages:

  1. Preparation phase for the skin
  2. Active treatment phase
  3. Soothing and rebalancing phase

1) Preparatory phase for the skin

1) Skin preparation phase This phase involves the application of three products in succession and is aimed at removing impurities, make-up residues, pollutants/occlusive substances, and establishing the correct pH to prepare the skin for the acid-based treatment. 1.1 - Purifying Creamy Milk: removes all forms of impurities and prepares the skin for phase 1.2. 1.2 - Pre Peel Exfoliating Gommage: completes the cleansing and purifying action of the skin and prepares it for the acid-based treatment. 1.3 - Pre Peel pH Prep Lotion: lowers the skin's pH to make the acids more effective.

2) Active treatment phase

This phase involves the sequential application of a mother acid and several enhancing acids layered according to the specific treatment: anti-ageing, anti-blemish, anti-acne.

Mother acids:

Glycolic Peel 40%

Mandelic Peel 30%

Glycyrrhetinic Peel 10%

Acids enhancers:

Lactobionic Peel 4%

Tartaric Peel 6%

Tranexamic Peel 2%

Shikimic Peel 3,5%

Lactic Peel 2,5%

This allows the treatment to be tailored to the type and severity of the imperfection, as well as the skin’s tolerance.

3) Soothing and rebalancing phase

This phase involves the application of three products in succession and is designed to soothe and rebalance the skin after treatment with active acids.

Specifically:

3.1 – Post Peel Neutralising Lotion: Neutralises the action of active acids and restores the skin’s correct pH balance.

3.2 – Rebalancing Soothing Mask: Lenisce eventuali rossori e riequilibra la pelle ripristinando il normale film idrolipidico.

3.3 Sublime UV Shield 50+: Protects the skin with UVA and UVB filters and broad spectrum SPF50+ PA++++, providing the right nourishment to make it look healthy and radiant.
